BYO-Pens!

So, one school gala I helped to coordinate had each classroom submit a class-made item to be in the silent auction. One of the Kinder classrooms created a fabric quilt of sorts with every students' smiley face hand print on it.

Well, this item was the hit of the auction and there wasn't anything 'silent' about it.

As the night progressed, a rivalry developed between two of the kinder mums. (They were rivaling each other at the bar, too.) It all peaked with one of the mums entering her last bid a few minutes before the end bell and prancing away from the table with ALL of the table's pens...

Then the other mom literally jumped my auction closers as they removed the sheets and (with her OWN pen) entered a “FINAL” final bid. The closers ran to the admin room, shut the door in the face of “pen mom” and asked me what to do. What should I have done? I don’t know!

In the end, we decided to give the quilt to the woman with the last (and highest) bid. We waited a bit before announcing winners, and watched out the door's window as the two husbands corralled their wives...it was a tense moment (due to the alcohol), but thankfully all was forgotten at school on Monday (also due to the alcohol).
